Born September 7, 1920, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, Joseph was a resident of Leonia, New Jersey for 10 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post #1 in Leonia. In 1941, he volunteered to join the Army, and he served his country with pride as an Artillery Mechanic in Hawaii during WWII. Later, while stationed in Portland, Maine, he met his future wife, Ellen, who was a nurse in the WAAC.
Prior to retiring in 1970, Joseph was a self-employed building contractor who designed and built many lovely homes in Wading River, New York. There he also served as a lieutenant in the volunteer fire department and was a member of the rescue team. In his second career, he was involved in the development of the Montour Environmental Preserve in eastern Pennsylvania.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 66 years, Ellen E. (McCarthy) Murray; his son, Joseph Frank Murray Jr. of Tucson; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Kenneth Tucker of Leonia, and grandsons, David Tucker of San Francisco and Matthew Tucker of Baltimore; and many nieces and nephews.
Joseph was laid to rest with military honors at Calverton National Cemetery on July 18, 2011.
